I just recently got my first pet rat on July 9th (3 days ago) , and today I noticed that his urine looks like watery blood! I'm not sure how long this has been going on, today is the first time I noticed it. Is it from the stress of moving or is it a much more serious problem? Thanks for reading, please help!!

  1. Rats DO get periods but if its not a male, this cannot be. It might be a girl, you never know....just take he/she to the vets....my cat peed blood and she had a kidney infection....your rat may have this type of thing ( urine infection0 and I don't think the cherries would have done it...good luck...=]

  2. maybe becuase its mated or something so it might be pregnant

  3. Rats don't even get periods... not to mention it's male. Ignore her :P

The cherries are not likely the culprit, no, the culprit is probably a urinary tract infection which will need to be treated with antibiotics from the vet. Also, your little boyo needs a friend. Rats are far too social to keep alone, it isn't fair to them.

Edit: Loopy, they do not get periods, they go through heat cycles. And they do not bleed during them.

  4. sometimes rodents get  something called mycoplasma(?)- or something like that and it causes their body secretions to be a light pink- red color, especially from eyes or nose.

though, if you JUST got your pet- you may want to talk to the place you got him from....it stinks, but if he really IS sick you may have the option to exchange him :(

don't worry yourself sick about it (like i did), but take to vet just in case....

  5. well we can't help. I suggest taking it to a vet.

  6. Make an appointment with the vet. He could have a urinary infection.

  7. go to the vet. it may be serious.
