  4. it's completely normal! My rats do it all the time as a way of cleaning you. Another factor is if you have traces of something, such as jam or syrup on your fingers, they'll l**k it off because it tastes good. Rats are really clean animals and they will sometimes nibble under your nails to clean any dirt out and once, I was holding my rat up too close to my face and he started l*****g the traces of orange juice off my lips! Hope this helps!

  5. Rats will groom their cagemates as a sign of affection. It's the same with their people! She's just kissing and grooming you :)

Has nothing to do with salt, I think that's rather ridiculous.

  6. Rats are excellent groomers, keeping themselves and their buddies neat an clean. This is also a way they bond to each other. So, your rattie is doing what comes naturally.

There is also some debate about them liking the salt on our skin, or that they are able to taste remnants of foods we may have handled.

  7. I think he maybe likes the taste of the salt (or whatever was last on your fingers) but that doesn't neccesarily mean he NEEDS more salt. Rats will pretty much eat anything but that again doesn't mean he needs it. Thats kinda like kids in a way lol. Also I agree with the others, I think it is more of a grooming thing. I think that is his way of showing you how much he loves you. He obviously feels very comfortable with you. Im sure you are a great rat owner!

  8. It's fine. It's not necessarily a sign of affection. You've probably got a bit of sweat and natural oils on your skin. Rats happen to love those tastes — especially the salty taste of sweat. I wouldn't worry about it.
