Question:

My rat has i discolored tail is she okay??

she sneezes a lot and she is growing really fast her tail is very long, she is about 3 months old.... and her tail has dark rust colored splotches on it....

  1. rats are meant to be in sewers so i don't think they get sick.

A lot of rats develop markings on their tails, too.  :)  Or, it could be dirt, as not every rat will groom their tails.  As long as there is no swelling, and no signs of infection, I wouldn't worry about it.  You could try using a damp cloth to gently rub on the tail and try to get some of the dirt off, but I wouldnt' worry about it.

    The sneezing could have to do with the bedding you use (Even Aspen can sometimes bug some rats, and I've always found carefresh dusty, so you may try another appropriate litter.) or it could be an upper respiratory infection.  going on a round of antibiotics would give you a better hint of what the problem is.  

  3. your rat might be sick or growing if it's tail is pick by the end of next week it's o.k. but you need to call or see a vet.

  4. My rat sneezed at first too. We used a pine bedding...switched to the cheap egg carton like bedding..she stopped almost instantly..and the tail shouldn't be anything serious.
