i have a rat who's roughly about 7 months old....she was fine but all of a sudden she started walking lop sided we figured it might just be a tummy ache but the next day my dad took her out to look at her, and she lost movement of her front legs. She won't eat or drink, and hasn't for three days. We think it's a stroke, what other possibilitys are there? ect.

any answers help,

- thanks.

  1. It could be a stroke take it to the vet if you think it's serious.

  2. Something that she needs a vet to help with.

  3. if she is lop-sided, there are many things it could be. some common reasons are ear mites, ear infections, or a respiratory infection. ear mites can be treated with a prescription of Ivermectin from your vet. Mites can cause various problems with diseases they may carry. ear and respiratory infections and are usually treated with an antibiotic such as Baytril. strokes are fairly uncommon in rats. i would take her to the vet ASAP.

  4. Sounds like a stroke. See a vet or just try to keep her comfortable and warm.

  5. your right its probly a stroke but it could also be from nerve damage, Cancer (which rats are highly susceptible  to), or could be a genetic flaw.  Unfortunatly vets are very unwilling to preform treatment on rats and if they are, sadly its not worth what you would have to pay. I would sugest trying your best to keep him/her comfortable, Maybe puree some food for it, and brace yourself for the worst =(

  6. sounds like somebody needs to see a vet!

    also if it hasn't ate or drank  you could buy a needless sering to feed it!

  7. If it's both front legs, the most probable culprit is a pituitary tumor. It's an inoperable tumor in the brain caused be s*x hormones. The only way to prevent them is by spaying, and they are very common in pet rats.

    It could also be a stroke or an injury, blood clot in the spine, but these are less likely.

    No matter what it is, she needs to see a vet. Unfortunately, you will probably have to have her put down, no matter what is the cause.

  8. ***:::!!DONT IGNORE THIS!!:::***

    same thing happened to my doggy. but it was her hind legs. what heppend was that the discs in her back slightly moved. and broke a nerve. and she was just dragging her legs. the doctors said that if we dont give surgery, shed never walk again. but it was too expensive, so we were gonna put her to sleep. but a miracle happened, and she was running on all four legs faster than me and my mom. =D. so i dont kno what you might want to do. take your rat to the vetand see what they can do.

    all i can help,
