A few days ago, we noticed that one of our rats was lying in a weird position. He was on his back, and seemed to be trying to get up. Finally he got to his feet, but he kept falling when he tried to walk. He would eat and drink very weakly, but every time we came in he was in a different position. Now he's gotten worst, and he's been lying in the same spot. He wont eat or drink anymore, and there's red stuff (poriphryn?) around his whiskers and eyes. We're not expecting him to live much longer, but does anyone have even the slightest clue about what could be wrong with him? We took the other rats out of his cage, but is whatever's wrong with him contagious? He's almost a year old, if that information helps any.

  1. Y'know who would help?

    A vet.

    Just an idea.

  2. The best thing to do is get it some professional help and quick. Take him to a vet. I would also take your other rat to see if he has what the other rat has but hasn't shown any symptoms yet.

  3. rats carry a lot of different viruses in them and we don't even notice it until it's too late, I don't know what to tell you except that it's best to do 1 of 2 things, 1 take him to a vet or 2 put him out of his misery. Don't make him suffer.

Sorry if what I put sounded cruel ,but how would you feel if you were so sick that you couldn't move or eat, you were starving to death, would you just want someone to let you lay there or do something?

  4. take him to the vet but it only sound as though hes only gonna live a couple more days at the most . sorry x

  6. go c a vet... what are you wating for?
