i've been having to give my rat this pink liquid medicine for her respiratory problems,

and i have to give it to her out of this thing that looks like a shot but it has no needle;

so you feed it to her.

but she won't eat it at ALL.

when i point it towards her mouth and start pushing it so that the medicine starts coming out, she just squirms out of my hands and it gets all over her.

any help here? is there any way i can get her to take it without struggling?

thanks[:

  1. lets some one help 1 person holds her and the other give her the medicine

or put in in a faviorate food

  2. What I do for my boy Templeton, who is on baytril also, is I put it in a pit of mushed up banana. He LOVES taking his medicine now. People have also told me that grape jam will work. It eliminates the need to struggle.

  3. Teehee, we had the same problem.

I take in animals all the time.

What you need to do, is have someone hold her.

Because every animal will squirm when given something they don't want.

So have a buddy come over, and hold her.

Putting it in her water will make her dyhdrated, rats are very smart and have a high sense of smell, so she will realize its in her water and will not drink it.

and you don't want that, you need to put the needless part in her mouth, not infront of her.

Then push slowly, so she doesn't choke.

    Remember, two people.

    One holds the other feeds.

Keep her head straight so she doesn't choke.

and don't just push it all in her mouth in one go, do it slowly.

    push, stop, push,

    ^-^

  4. I had to do the same thing to my hamster for a couple weeks.  The best time to feed your rat is when she is tired (just waking up from sleeping).  I know its not very nice to wake them up, but its so much easier to feed them medicine when they are waking up because they dont have that much energy.  So when you see your rat relaxing, pick her up and then try feed her the medicine - she shouldn't struggle as much and it should be easier.  If you are still having a hard time, have a partner hold her while you feed her or the other way arond.  Good luck to you.

  5. if you can mix that medicine with water, how about mixing it in its water container so that it will drink it. May be that is why it will not take the medicine cause it smells bad for him or tastes awful for him.

  6. Talk to your Doctor , Because i am not sure if this would work. But put the medicine in your rats water. but only fill up the water gage , to how much you think she will drink. Because you don't want to waste the medicine.

    I hope i helped ! :] ~ Ariel ~

  8. Mix the medicine in a small amount of yogurt on a spoon and she should eat it without any problem.
