My rats are really shy?

I have two awesome girl rats and I love them to death. I try to play with them at least once a day but they just seem really unsocial. They like to be with me but when I try to play with them all they want to do is go on my shoulder and hide. Why are they so scared and shy?

That's how my rats are. They just need to get used to you, they are obviously scared and just need to get used to you. Don't force them to sit with you. What you can do is feed them some foods other than their normal food as a treat. Give them a piece of cheese or a small piece of pasta so they look to you as a nice person. Then when you go to their cage, they will see that you are not going to harm them.

Scratch their neck, stroke their fur, give them snacks and they will be your best friend in no time :)
