  1. Probably buck grease, nothing to worry about it's just something males have.

  2. The yellowy-orange "grease" like substance usually found on bucks back is generally termed "buck-grease". It's an oily based discharge that is related to their testosterone levels, and is perfectly normal.

If you feed your rats too much protein, this can increase their production of "buck grease"

According to one site: If you notice that your rat has scabs or too much grease, you need to cut down on the level of protein in the diet (go down to 14%). Try adding more grains and pasta to their diet and bathing them in Palmolive or Sunlight antibacterial dish detergent (help cut the grease).

  3. I would say popherin. But popherin is red. It can come from the eyes or the nose. If you notice alot around your rats eyes or alot of sneezing and see alot of it you need to take the rat to the vet. This is a good indication of a respitory infection. Alot of times when the rat has white fur and it cleans itself that is how it gets transferred. It gets on the paws and then they wipe themselves down as they l**k. I have one girls who constantly has popherin on her nose from sneezing. The vet said she is just a sneezer but in most cases rats that have excess of this its a sign of sickness. Hope this helped. The rat health guide is an excellent source of info on rats. It wont let me copy it down here but just google it and it should pop up. Has helped me out on things more times than I can count.

  4. a lot of the time in rats with mainly white fure its called staining, its off there eyes but come off there nose. becasue rats eyes pertrude from there heads they produce and sometimes boggle a lubricant liquid that goes over there eyes. but sometimes they produce to much, there is like a chanel a that runs off and leads down to their nose. you might see sometimes red staining or just sometimes a bit of red on their nose and when they clean themselfs sometimes it will rub off on to theikr body were they have been grooming themselfs of other rats that have been grooming them.

  5. Some male rats get orange greasy stuff on their backs its perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. It helps to give your rat more frequent baths if you dont like it.
