Question:

My real nails or fake nails for my wedding?

I am getting married November 8, 2008 and the nails that I have been growing and grooming for the past 2-3 months have decided to break. I don't want to deal with the hassle of taking off acrylics after my wedding but I want them to look nice. I have very nice natural nails and do not want to mess them up for just one day. What does anyone suggest? I am running out of time and I want to do a trial of how I will look with everything done. Thanks in Advance!

  1. You're right, acrylics are damaging and a hassle.

If you have nice, natural nails, just keep them manicured, polished and pretty. Stick with a realistic length. If you are manicuring them yourself:

Get Sally Hansen Hard as Wraps clear nail coat to keep your nails strong.

Keep them polished, but because this can be a hassle to keep up with, go with Maybelline Express Finish (dries in one minute) and spray nails with salon professional nail enamel dryer.

Wear gloves when you are doing any kind of house work, yard work, etc.

  2. Even if they are short, real, well manicured nails will be prettier and easier to manage than fake.

  3. I no u dnt like acrelics, i dnt either, but trust me, u wudnt wanna regret forgeting sth, before dat day. Go on fix it, ita ur day, look beautifuel. probably, u can make it light. all d best.

  4. Real. If you pop a fake one off at the wedding, you'll be upset with yourself. Just trim them and put clear polish on. You should shine on your wedding day, not your nails.

  5. the nails I had on for my wedding messed up my real nails for about a year...  I'd advise against it if you can avoid it. seems like if you can groom your nails nice for over a month, that should be plenty of time to work on them before your wedding.

  6. I think you still have plenty of time to grow your nails back out. If it gets within a couple weeks of your wedding and they decide to break again then make an appt and get acrylics.....check out gels! they are so much better! but as for right now just take hair and nail vitamins and go with ur natural nails. thats what i am doing for my wedding in 12 days! congrats by the way

  7. your own nails

  8. the day b4 get a manicure and make em look all nice(no fakes though!) it'll stay for about a month

  9. Just use your real nails.  You can go to the salon and have them paint a nice french manicure without using fake nails.  No matter how long or short they are.

  10. Do not take the advise of anyone who tells you to get "Press-on" nails. Those are a sure way for them to pop right off. The glue they use is not nearly as strong as it is in the salons. If you decide to get professionally done nails (Which can be done to look natural and beautiful) you are almost guaranteed to not get them popped off. They are made of acrylic and not an actual "press on nail" so it doesn't "pop off."

You would need to soak them for about 20-30 minutes in 100% acytone. They last anywhere from 2 - 3 weeks, so you don't have to worry about maintaining them during your wedding & honeymoon. They tend to cost anywhere from $19 - $50. There's a place I go to in Michigan and it costs $19 for a full set. That is the best price I could find.

If you get the acrylic nails, make sure they use the spray nail polish (That tends to NOT peel, and stays on during the duration of the nails.)

I say go with the professionally done nails. This is YOUR day to pamper yourself!! Go crazy! :)

Plus, don't you want to look at the close-up pics of your bouquet with pretty, manicured to perfection fingernails?

    Congratulations!

  11. I'm a licensed stylist/manicurist. Alot of brides I've helped grow out their own natural nails just a little bit, and then have them airbrushed the day before their wedding with a "french manicure". good luck. :)

  12. Yhu should use yurr real nails because if yhu have a fake nail it may break or somethinq like dhat if yurr doinq somethinq =]

  13. It's your big day - I would invest in silk wrap nails.  Get them done a day or two before the wedding.  They will look great for the wedding and for your honeymoon because they won't break and the polish won't chip.  The silk wrap will be less harmful to your nail than the acrylic and should do very little, if no, damage if you take them off after a couple of weeks.  Congratulations.

  14. I felt the same way!  I was married on August 16.  On August 15, I had an manicure/pedicure appointment and I was ADAMANT that I didn't want gel nails.  A few days before the 15th my thumb nail decided to rip off....so then I was left with 9 sort of decent looking nails.  When I got to the manicurist, she and a friend talked me into GEL nails.  I was hesitant at first, but they quickly helped me to see the pluses.  They are beautiful and strong.  My first question after getting them on was, "When and how can I get them removed?"  Because, I too, didn't want nail damage.  My husband and I returned from our honeymoon on Monday and I had intended on getting them off immediately, but I had a busy week so I just got them off yesterday (Friday).  It was an easy process...they soaked my nails in a warmed solution and then "sanded" them off.  My real nails are a bit frail right now, but in the end, it was totally worth it to have beautiful and hassle free nails for the wedding and honeymoon.  Just get them removed quickly and there'll be less weakening of your real nails.

If I had it to do over again, I would have done the same thing...best wishes!

  15. I would say keep your real nails. That's what I did for my wedding. I just went out and had a manicure the day before the wedding. But I was happy I went with my real nails because acrylics would have been such a hassel to take off after the wedding.

  16. REAL! My nails are pretty weak like but I've been growing them and their stronger now just not too long.

I push the cuticles back and give myself more new-growth (show more white at the tip) then I get white nail polish and polish the times then put the natural tint color over it. Heavy coat then light coat and they last for a good week.....longer depending on how think the white and clear is.

That will last you for your wedding and honeymoon and it's REALLY cheap. Under 5 dollars for 2 polish colors

And IMO, they look better than fake.

  17. I would opt for the gel or acrylic nails.  They look great for about 3 weeks (unless you can't wear them at work) and it cost $5 to have them taken off after.  If you have them done, they will look perfect for your day and you won't have to think about if all of them are the same size, shape, or if one will break on your day.

I am treating my bridesmaids to a manicure and pedicure the day before the wedding as part of my "thank you" gift.  It'll be fun.  Congratulations and best wishes to you.

  18. Have you tried Sally Hansen clean nail polish with Acrylic and Nylon?

I always have a problem with my real nails breaking...

Until I found Sally Hansens Acrylic/Nylon polish...it made my nails so strong....I was rushing around, moving things, delivering things a week before my wedding...and not a single nail broke!

I started using it at least 3 months before....and my bridesmaids didn't start until a month before the wedding....and our nails looked beautiful...and real!

and yes...I still use it even after my wedding...and my nails withstood the test of time...moving from an apartment to a house...without breaking once!

  19. buy the press on french nails...they even have them for toes and they look great!

  20. Go to a good salon,  (not one of the cheap asian places-no offense, I gone to them too) and ask a nail tech what they advise.  You could with help from weekly manicures done by a reputable nail tech get your real nails in shape before November.

If you decide to go the artificial route, find a salon that does real gel nails.  The high quality gels are done with a liquid gel and no powder whatsoever.  Those have not damaged my nails and actually really help my nails.

I have extremely brittle nails-even with prenatal vitamins my real nails are c**p.

But the key is to find someone that is a reputable nail tech that you trust.

    Good luck.
