  1. The RX-861 can not decode Dolby Digital Plus, Dobly Digital TrueHD, nor DtsHD.  But HD-DVD players can decode the newer audio formats (it was required by the HD-DVD spec) and stream them to the RX-861 as PCM.

However, Blue-Ray spec did not make this mandatory, so your PS-3 may not decode the higher formats.

  2. The ps3 cant bitstream dolby hd or dts hd yet.

  3. I have a similar issue with Onkyo.  I found that if I use DIRECT/MULTICHANNEL (AND PURE AUDIO), I get the DOLBYHD/DTSHD sound, but the receiver does not acknowledge that.

    Try to use similar settings.

  4. the ps3 does decode true hd but can only send it lpcm not bitstream. The ps3 cannot sent it analog multi channel out either. But i have heard of some receivers not reconizing when it is in fact decoding it
