"My refrigerator leaks water from down the inside back wall from the freezer to the bottom of the fridge under the crisper pans. I have already cleaned under the fridge and dusted and wiped all the coils and fan under the fridge too... but it still leaks. I have an automatic ice maker, but everything is connected alright. I have noticed that my back panel on the freezer at times gets very hot, but in 15 minutes it goes back to freezing again. Can someone give me any other advice without having to pay someone to look at it to have it fixed or having to buy a new one. Thanks!"

  1. I would turn off your ice maker for 24 hours just to make sure that is not the issue. I had a similar issue a few years back and it was very hard to notice the leak. I would move your refridgerator and put towels down as I had to replace my wood floor which was much more expensive than replacing the frige. If it is the ice maker you can buy replacement lines and Lowes or Home Depot cheap. Other than that, you might want to call a repair place in your area and ask them that you are on a tight budget and you need someone to take a look and give you a quote. A friend of mine has done this in the past and they told them what the issue was and he was able to repair it himself.

    Good luck

  2. There is a few things that can cause this problem. Check this site and see if you can spot your problem -

  3. I just had this same thing happen to me about a month ago. In your freezer there should be a cover on the bottom of it that you can s***w off, if you do this, there should be all kinds of ice under there that is causing your problem, it can't drain properly, and it is leaking into your fridge. You need to thaw out your fridge/freezer overnight. This will fix your problem, it did mine.

I also thought my fridge was broken too and I thought I would have to spend tons of money to call someone to see how much it would cost to fix. But I looked on kenmore's website and it told me to do this first, and to my great relief it worked! Look on the make of your refrigerators website first to see what they suggest before you pay anyone to look at it.

  4. Self-defrosting refrigerators usually dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates.

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

In some refrigerators, the defrost water is intentionally directed down the back wall of the refrigerator, where it then flows to the bottom of the refrigerator compartment and out to a small drain--usually located beneath one of the drawers at the bottom of the refrigerator. If the drain becomes clogged or blocked, the water may back up. To fix this problem, clear the obstruction.

If the water appears to be coming from the defrost drain pan, inspect for holes or cracks, and replace the pan if necessary.
