My remote doesn't work for my dvd/vcr player?

ok the other day i was gonna play the movie dirty dancing and i tried using the remote and ii doesnt work

Try replacing the batteries??

Or maybe getting a Universal remote??

#1 check the batteries, if that doesn't work try buying a cheap universal remote control and see if that works. I bought one that controls 3 different devices for 8 dollars at Walmart and it works great.
