  1. no i do not agree. the chinese are getting scored higher than they deserve in some areas. one being gymnastics. their scores are outrageously high for as many mistakes they are making. i think it is horrible and they have lost my respect. not only is the united states being cheated but so are many other countries.

  2. Sure the ceremony was impressive but at what cost? What message did replacing the ugly talented girl with the cute nobody send to the world?  Let's sew supermodel's heads onto athelete's bodies!

Isn't that going against the very fundamental idea of the olympics?  Recognizing talent?

Too many cover-ups and too much fakeness.  I lost a lot of respect for China in that it doesn't seem to care about people, just appearances.  I never knew that they would sink so low.  What they did to that little girl is so symbolic and unforgiveable.

  3. I agree that the Chinese people have been gracious hosts and genuinely nice to the visitors in their country.  However, I have never thought poorly of the Chinese citizens, only the Regime.  I have not gained any respect for the Chinese Regime by any means.  The Chinese Regime is still a communist and their human rights record needs big time improvement.

  4. yes, me too.I never knew they were so talented!

  5. Not that I ever disrespected them, but I definitely feel a lot more warmth towards them. I went to Beijing in 2005 as part of a uni course and I didn't feel that they were an outwardly happy community, but you can tell from the Olympics that they definitely are.

  6. it was pretty cool seeing their introduction, i'll have to admit. but i also thought it was a tad bit wierd.

  7. agreed

  8. I have more respect for the hard workers in China but no not altogether.

People fail to realize that the audiences aren't fully Chinese there are over 600 american athletes there and they have each brought family members. So yes some of them have been very kind but I never disrespected them as it is.

I do however disagree with their government and the judging.

Just cause the judges aren't chinese, which just saw there are quite a few who are, doesn't mean they do not like americans. Quite a few of them are European and everyone knows Europe does not like america too much right now.

Plus the same mistakes have been by the chinese and americans but americans are graded harsher.

I know their athletes work hard but they arent naturally gifted they are picked out as toddlers and set away to be molded into athletes. They dont get to see their family and some families wont allow them to come home. The not allowing them to come home is a bit crazy.

Also just because the passports say the gymnast are 16 doesnt mean they are. This is a country where they have limited Internet sites not just to their people but to the olympic visitors. This is a country that will do anything to win.

They faked the singing the fireworks they have try to silence foreign journalists.

    No would be my answer.

  9. For me it is the opposite... The fact that their "Middle Class" is what Americans consider ABJECT POVERTY, the fact that they censor their citizen’s access to the internet, the fact that they are cheating at every turn by putting 13 year olds in to the Olympics, the fact that they still arrest and EXECUTE you for having pro democracy feelings and saying them aloud... All topped off with the fact that the government spent FORTY SEVEN BILLION (With a B-illion) on this farce which they then edited for content before allowing it to be aired to the rest of the world...

    Yeah...

Their government needs to be taken down for the sake of their people...

You complain about what the US does? We don't monitor your blog and then have secret agents show up at your house to take you away to an internment camp in the middle of the night...

If you have ANY positive feelings about the Chinese Government, they are based on LIES...

    They are cruel, communist, murderers!!

    MURDERERS... Nothing more, nothing less...

Their human rights violations make a majority of the world look like Disney Land.

  10. Yes. I know not the entire audience is Chinese but it's great that everyone is being cheered for and watched and so far from what I have watched no booing or poor sportsmanship.

  11. Disagree.

Their obsession with superficiality went too far when they had the one little girl lip sync

And the way they lie about these gymnast ages made me lose respect, not because I care who wins..but the rules are there for a reason. it is not right to rob these girls of their childhood, they are already unwillingly snatched away at age 3 to train.

But I am addicted to the Olympics this summer and the Chinese have been gracious and efficient hosts.

  12. I agree...I just applied for a visa to go visit this Spring...I can't wait.

  13. Yes about the opening ceremony but I'm pretty sure they're not telling the truth about the ages of the Chinese gymnists. The girl is missing a tooth that you lose around the age of 11! They are also being scored way too high.

  14. Yes, it shows that the used to be "sick man of asia" can be as good as other people of developed nations.

  15. The chinesse people are nice and warm; is the government that is evil and corrupt

  16. Unfourtunately I must respectfully disagree. With the girl in the opening ceremonies being yanked because she wasn't pretty enough, the fake fireworks, the arresting of foreign journalists, and now watching the Women's All-round final and seeing the controversial scores being given I'm afraid to say that I don't have increased respect. I have not included the age allogations for the gymnasts until there is hard evidence but this lack of olympic spirit saddens me.

  17. in some ways yes and in some ways no. the opening ceremony was awesome and i think they hold a lot of talent however in the women's gymnastics i think they are lying about their age. i mean there is no way that those girls are 16! they dont even look 10 :)

  18. Nooo!

I just saw the news and the girls who did gymnastics

were like *******  8 years old pretending to be 16 and thats

    cheating isn't it?

  19. I'm sorry but I don't get it? did you use to have a low opinion of chinese people?

Who the heck are you to look down on anyone?

The Chinese civilization is one of the greatest civilizations of all times.

if your comment is not a stupid racist statement, then I don't know what is

    btw I am not chinese

    Your a dumb ***

  20. I don't know if the word is respect.  I think the opening ceremonies was beautiful and amazingly choreographed. I think they also explained a lot about their culture...however, I know a bit about the history of Communist China and some of the rules they have in their country. So I just can't say that I have respect.
