The attachment safety switch is new, and I can hear that the micro switch is functioning when the clutch is disengaged.. What other issues can be involved?

Thanks for any help.

  1. The only way to get off the seat with the engine running is to engage the parking brake.  It is supposed to work that way.  You could disable the driver presence switch under the seat if you goal is to be able to leave the seat with the engine running and the brake off.

  2. Your mower may or may not be designed to run when you are off the seat with no attachment engaged.  Check the manual or go online to check the manufacturer's specifications.

If the manual says the underseat "kll" switch should only function if an attachment is engaged, then there was likely an error made in connecting the new attachment safety switch.  That switch will be a "double throw" arrangement so that when it is ON (attachment engaged) current must also run through the seat-mounted "kill" switch.

When it is OFF (attachment not engaged) it in effect by-passes the seat-mounted "kill" switch and allows current to flow through from the ignition.

I suspect that when the new switch was mounted, the wires were connected to the wrong posts.  A little sleuthing with a voltmeter or 12-volt test light will let you figure out which wire provides power when the ignition is on, which wire comes from the "kill" switch and which goes through the attachment solenoid.

It's a neat little puzzle but you will be able to solve it with a series of tests.  Have fun.

  3. There is a seat switch that kills the ignition if you get off the tractor

  4. LOOK UNDER THE SEAT,BET YOU FIND ANOTHER SWITCH,THIS SWITCH WILL KILL THE ENGINE,REGUARDLESS IF THE BLADES ARE INGAGED OR NOT.
