puts out 1-2 ozm and has less ducts. How do I know my baby is getting enough from the left side, and how can I effectively drain the right side? And how do I know she gets hind milk from the right side? My daughter usually does not take a second side and that can leave the other breast for 4-6 hours. I have had plugged ducts worked on twice with ultrasound and manual exp by phys therapist. I am not working but find it hard to find time during the day to pump if she is not sleeping. (And after every other feeding would be more than difficult) Going to lac consultant Mon, but wanted others opinions.

  1. There are several things to try if you are concerned. Try offering the smaller side first at each feeding (if let-down is the problem, then you can start nursing on the smaller side, then gently break the latch and slide the baby to the other side after let-down). It may help to offer that side when the baby is sleepy, or while you are walking or rocking to distract the baby. Try various positions and consider nursing in a darkened room. It may take time, so be patient. While you are working to increase supply on the smaller side, make sure to continue to nurse or express often enough on the bigger side so that you do not become engorged or develop a plugged duct or mastitis. I hope this helps.

  2. i was the same my left was always producing to much and my right breast was empty and it was enough more than enough, just the way it was, you could try abottle inbetween some of your feeds to also help you out, dont be to fixiated with all the machine stuff and what should be dont stress about it, let it just happen naturaly what you produce will be enough for what your baby wants

  3. Pumping always helps but anyone can tell you that the more you pump or breast feed the more you produce!
