Question:

My ring is stuck-when should I worry??

I , like a dummy, was so anxious to just get my wedding ring on after giving birth 3 wks ago-well I got it on and now it won't come off!! It is super tight and i've been holding ice on it and tried soap and windex bu it's still really stuck.

I'm really wondering what signs I should watch for to make sure my finger is OK, with the windex I can still at least spin the ring around but I think i've made it swell even more by trying to get it off-so when do I need to worry about my finger?

Any good suggestions besides those listed for getting it off?? Thanks!

  1. Usually soap is all you need. If that doesn't work, it's pretty tight.

You need to watch that your circulation isn't cut off. If it hurts, or if your finger starts to discolor (bluish-purple), you may need to get it cut off. Not a nice thing to contemplate, but your finger is more important. And the ring can be re-soldered again by a jeweler.

  2. Quit trying to get it off. Push it back where it's comfortable and soak your hand in ice water or as cold as you can stand it for about 5-10 minutes. Then forget about it until the swelling goes down....assuming it is comfortable.

Then put lotion on your hand...a lot of it....work it around oyur finger and see if it will come off. Don't keep trying over & over, that will just make it swell more.

You'll know the ring is too tight when your fingers start to turn blue (they may do this in the cold water but this is normal) and if they start tingling. If this happens, then you need to go to Urgent Care and get it cut off.

    Good luck!
