My roborovski is pregnant, but I'm worried?

My soposeably male roborovski just had babies! So obviously the petstore got the genders wrong. I've bred hamsters before but I haven't prepared myself for this one since it was unexpected. I didn't give her extra nesting materials and the babies were born under the wheel where there isn't much bedding. Will it be to cold for them, or it mom's heat enough? Also, the male is in there, too, since I though they were both males. But I'm afraid to take him out because I don't want my scent all over the cage. Should I wait until he gets to the 2nd story, then get him? And will the babies be okay? Thanks!

  1. Take the dad out and I would do it while hes in the second story also dump some bedding in the corner she'll go thier if she chooses and she will move her babies too. Also what I do is put a towel over the cage so she doesnt get scared and you can touch the babies after 2weeks only go in there for food and water oh yeah.......dont clean the cage until two weeks.

    Good luck!

  2. Take dad out.  (Goodluck!  I have a robo too and I have the worst time catching him.)  Just be quick about it.  Disturb the cage as little as possible and don't touch the babies.  As long as you do that, you're usually fine.  Mom has to really be upset to eat her babies.  You should be safe to throw in more bedding, just throw it off to the side and if she wants to use it, she'll move it herself.  After about a week or two, you can usually start playing with the babies.  (When they're running around on there own.

  3. If they get too cold, the mother will move them. I suggest you provide a proper nesting location in an opposite corner, and if the mother likes it better, she will move them there.

And take the male out NOW!!! Just try to coax him out or something, but it will harm the mother and her babies leaving him in. NEVER leave in opposite sexed hamsters together for any reason.
