My new roommate gave me 2 checks, one for the security deposit and one for half months rent. I deposited both checks and they both bounced, they said that the account were both closed. Now she said that she would give me the money yesterday and she hasnt, i reminded her like 5 times...and i think she is lying about a lot of things....

People told me that if a rent check is bounced, I have to ask for the rent to be given to me within 24 hours..meaning she has 24 hours to give me the rent or she would face consequences...what do I do...I need a roommate, but not one that would s***w me over

  1. Everything depends on your local laws.  So I would check with the police, and also inform your landlord too.  So to me, it's obvious that she is trying to s***w you.  Ask her to move out......if she doesn't then do it legally.  Then take her to small claims court to recoop some of your losses.  Best of luck to you.

  2. Writing a bad check is a felony in most states.  Demand that she make good on the check...if she refuses, file a report with your local police department or district attorney.

  3. Demand that her payment be made in cash.  If she doesn't pay you, take her and her NSF checks to small claims court and sue her for what she owes you.

  4. where you live greatly determines on what you can do. And also if your looking for a roommate and the rent is cheap i think i should grab on that.

  5. WHEN SHE IS AWAY, PACK ALL HER THINGS AND PUT THEM OUT ON THE PORCH WITH A NOTE AND LOCK THE DOOR.

IF SHE MAKES ANY PROBLEMS INSTEAD OF LEAVING QUIETLY< CALL THE POLICE (IN FACT  CALL THEM BEFOREHAND AND INDICATE CONCERN THAT YOU MAY NEED THEM)

IN SHORT--->LOCK HER OUT (SHE HASNT PAYED, SHE DOESNT EVEN LIVE THERE)

NEXT TIME YOU GET A ROOMATE/REQUIRE MONEY BEFORE SHE MOVES  IN.

  6. A bounced check is grounds for eviction.  You can also demand that all future payments be in cash.
