My roommate in my dorm is smoking weed what should I do?

This is hypothetical. I wont be living in a dorm till next year.

What if you had a roommate who smoked pot, kept it in the room and you didn’t smoke or want anything to do with it?

I would transfer out of the room because I don’t want to get accused of having it and I don’t want to have any part of it.

What about all of you?

  1. I'd get a bong and have a killer party, man.

  2. Don't call the police, come on people, everyone in college had tried weed, it doesn't make a person bad because they smoke it!

Okay, this is what you should do: first be honest with your roommate, ask them to smoke elsewhere if you are uncomfortable. If that doesn't work just change your dorm living arrangements.  But, don't call the police that is the most childish and irrational response you can have to a situation like this one. I will guarantee that the police who come to arrest this gentleman have smoked some pot in their day! Just be honest I am sure your roommate will understand, and if not then just move out, that simple.  Also for a heads up, weed isn't that bad, people have to smoke it for anorexia, and bulimia...sometimes...also in some states medical marijuana is legal.  Plus, nobody is perfect, tsk, tsk on the person who said call the police, be forgiving, to go and ruin someones college career is just low...so so low.  Oh, and I bet you are wondering, NO I don't smoke weed.

  3. If someone is polite they will ask you if its cool if they smoke in the room that you share.  If they don't beat the s##t out of them and tell them to get a new room, just kidding transfer rooms or take up smoking pot.

  4. Why dont you spark a spliff with him?

  5. I've been this person, and honestly, if my roommate simply asked not to be involved, I would find somewhere else to smoke. 9 times out of 10 weed smokers aren't violent people, so don't call the cops on them, just ask them. If they don't stop or listen to your requests, hey its your room too, then you may have to think about talking to someone higher up or just getting a new room. Calling the cops on them might bring about more trouble than you are willing to deal with.

  6. steal his wallet so he cant buy it anymore.. then punch his mouth real hard so he cant smoke someone elses weed either

  7. I agree with you, insist on being transferred immediately.

Remember your primary focus in college is to master the academics, and you need to align your life accordingly.  Your room needs to be free of the worst distractions so you can say focused.  The social dynamics in college are tricky enough to navigate without having to tip toe around open drug use where you sleep and study.  Pick your transgressions carefully.  If weed isn't on your list - stay clear.  Good luck in school.

P.S.   It takes a lot of personal energy to negotiate a comfortable agreement with a pot smoker (or someone that puts you at risk).  Don't waste your time and energy on another person's issues.  Take yourself out of the situation all together.  Save your energy for yourself and the people you need to care about.

P.P.S.  It's not about passing judgement on the weed smoker, its about managing your own life.

  8. I would transfer out also.

  9. If you're comfortable with potentially getting him in trouble, then talk to the RA in private and tell them the situation.  If they seem unwilling to do anything about it, talk to the Resident Coordinator or whoever's in charge of the dorms.  Simply explain that you don't want to be near the junk and you want a different room.  You have every right to do this; it's your life and your education, and the dude doesn't have the right to do illegal drugs in your shared room.

  10. I had it happen. don't transfer out. call the police first, tell the RA second. if it happens, don't put up w/ it, cuz when he gets caught, and they usually do, your roommate would say it's yours, and since you didn't report it, they would arrest you too.

  11. Well, I would join him but in your case, I would explain to him that you do not want him to smoke in the room and that he needs to respect you because it is your room too. If he did it or did something to p**s me off, I would transfer to a new room or find a new roommate.

  12. Get him some of that gum that makes u stop smoking!!!! =)

  13. mind your business and if he gets caught let them know you knew nothing about it.
