My rosy boa has lately been opening his mouth and leaving it open for a few seconds, and will occasionally bulge under his mouth. I have been told that he might have a respitory infection. Any other suggestions

  1. Hello;

    Without seeing your snake, my first guess would be a respiratory infection as well; particularly as Rosy boas are extremely susceptible to them.

    Some other symptoms of respiratory infections besides the two you named are clicking or wheezing noises while breathing, mucus and bubbling in and around the mouth, and decrease in appetite and weight loss because of said decrease in appetite. My suggestion would be to get your snake to a vet to get a solid diagnosis, and if it is a respiratory infection; to get treatment for it. Chemical irritants like those from cigarette smoke or cedar/pine bedding, or an allergy to something like the dust in coconut chip substrate or corn cob bedding can also cause respiratory problems.

    For further reading on the subject; here are a few websites that discuss respiratory infections, things that mimic respiratory infections, and general respiratory problems in reptiles, their causes, symptoms, and what to do about them. :)

    Good luck with your Rosy boa!

  2. i think it's a respiratory infection, if you want your boa to live take it to the vet right away my turtle died from that too.
