  1. I have an old rose that I cut back in the fall and mulch really well-it gets cold here in MN.

I get roses on the new growth every year.

Be sure to give it rose food in the spring.  Roses are heavy feeders.

If it doesn't come back in the spring, it just may have gone to the big rose garden in the sky.

    Good luck and happy gardening.

  2. Cut it back in the early spring. That is the best time for new growth.Give it some epsom salt and a good granular fertilizer and watch it grow.

  3. Here in the desert we cut our roses back about 6 weeks before the average date of the last freeze for our area.  The reason being, once you cut them back and fertilize the plant will begin the process of new growth.  This process takes a month or more but new growth is very frost sensitve so the timing of the pruning is critical.

  4. cut it a little in a slant cut.

Give it plenty of manure and some organic plant fertilizers.

Do not put synthetic or chemical fertz. as it will rapidly speed up its growth and the plant after 3 months will wither away .
