  1. If it is a manual shift, your clutch needs adjustment or is wearing out.  If it is an automatic, your clutch plates may be worn, low fluid, low fluid pressure (bad pump or shuttle valve springs worn, dirt in the fluid, clogged filter, etc.etc.etc...
