ive had my royal python just over a month still very young feeding on fluffs weekly. he/shes about 22'' long. ate fine first 3 weeks taking 1 fluff a week. but this week struck at the food wrapped around it and then let go. i was thinking maybe its because he/she could be going into shed soon?

  1. Quite possible.  Many snakes will go "off" feeding when they are preparing to shed.  Wait another week or until your snake finishes shedding and try offering another meal.  Don't try to feed when the snake is at the stage when their eyes go cloudy before shedding.

  2. That could be it.  Was she scratched by the fluff.  That could make her afraid to try eating for a while.  How old is your bp.  They can go for long times without food unless they are babies like under 1 year.

  3. Some reptiles won't eat when they are about to shed their skin. Also, is it possible your snake hurt itself on the fluffs nail or something? I know it doesn't seem likely, but remember that a tiny fluffs nail may not seem like much to you but is like a small claw to a reptile (depending on the fluff's size obviously). But if it's only been a week, don't worry yourself too much. Snakes can go a LONG TIME without eating. Try feeding again in a few days and see if he will take it. If it still just strikes but doesn't eat...Maybe try a pinkie mouse, which is smaller and less developed? And if all else fails, you can always ask your vet. Okay, good luck! =)

  4. i week isnt a worry snakes can go months without eating (altho its not advised) it could be just its not hungry or its gonna shed.

  5. Hi just a suggestion but if its f/t are u sure the organs were warm enough as i have mine strike and refuse to eat it before and the only thing that was wrong was that i hadn't warmed it up enough! i check it by placing the f/t between my index finger and thumb and if it still feels cold it's not warm enough! don't try to often just leave it for a while then try again if it still doesn't take it then don't worry it can go for a while without eating! just try again in a couple of days, hope i have helped good luck!

  6. Yes that is very possible. I have leopard geckos and a few days prior to shedding they don't eat. I am doing research. Most likely is is shedding.
