Question:

My rubberplant?

My rubber plant (ficus elastica) hasn't grown upwards since I bought it 3 years ago.

It's grown plenty of leaves on the bottom of the plant, but these are small leaves, only the size of 3 inch long. And they don't grow any bigger - it just grows more.

Now as my plant loses its leaves naturally, it's got loads of small leaves on the bottom, nothing on the middle bit of the stem, and then a couple of leaves on the top that were there when I bought the plant.

It otherwise seems healthy - it just is only growing leaves on the bottom and they're small. It doesn't grow upwards.

  1. your rubber plant, sorry i can't help but if you bounce it around on this page you will surely get an answer, but some may stretch the truth a bit

  2. try re potting in larger pot, mine keeps its leaves for ages and doesnt seem to lose any at all, yours are not getting a chance to grow large.

  3. LIGHT: Expose to medium (bright indirect) light for best growth. Tolerates low light. Grows well if under artificial light 16 hours per day.

WATER: Allow soil to dry out between thorough watering's. Mist frequently. Raise humidity.

TEMPERATURE: Maintain high temperatures for best growth. Tolerates average temperatures.

    Comments:

Pot up only when severely root bound. Use porous soil that drains freely. Pinch growing tip from young plant for multiple stem growth. Remove original leaf from immature, store-bought plant if it yellows, which is common. Feed every 14 days with mild solution during active growth. Clean leaves monthly. Avoid leaf polishes. Do not remove pink covering from newly forming leaf. Cut stem back to base if plant gets too large or leggy; stump will regenerate. Root tip for an additional plant. Propagate by air layering, tip cuttings, or leaf-bud cuttings.

It must be kept in a small pot I have left mine so long in one pot it split the plastic the i put it in a slightly larger one then stand in an ornamental pot so it looks ok.

    hope this helps
