  1. To measure yourself for your seat size, you want to take a measuring tape and start at the outside of your knee and take it up to your hip, that will give you your seat size.

Typically you want a medium to wide tree for Arabs and Quarter Horses.

I have an old Stubben Siegfried that I've used on BOTH breeds and it's done GREAT!

  2. The best thing to do is to go to a equestrian store and have an associate help you out I am 5 foot 2 and 100 pounds and 18 and I have an all purpose saddle with a medium tree size...Just depends on the horse and the rider.

  3. You'll probably be better off with an Arab saddle, but you should do wither tracings to be sure.  The back of an Arab is completely different from th back of a quarter horse...a lot depends on the type of build the quarter horse has.  If he is wide backed, an Arab tree may work.

As for your size, I believe it is your knee to hip measurement that determines the english seat size....hopefully someone else will verify if that's right.

DUH....I should read the other answers before I post!!!!

The posters above are incorrect regarding arabian saddle fit.  The back of an arab is barrel shaped and the angle of the bars on the tree is almost flat like a full quarter horse bars tree.

  4. The seat size is YOUR measurement and the tree size is your horses measurement. You fit that to one horse. If your riding multiple horses you will most likely need multiple saddle ESPECIALLY if you ride quarter horses and arabians since arabians are generally narrow horses while quarter horses are usually wide. I recommend getting a saddle with an adjustable gullet kit. You can get them in cheaper, synthetic Wintec saddles OR leather Bates saddles which are very expensive. That way you can change the gullet size to fit every horse you ride.

As for your seat size you sound like you would need a 16 or 16.5 seat

  5. well that depends on the horse itself........if your riding arabs then i would say small tree, but its gonna be bigger of quarters
