Can you compare with some data - like the phone bills, Cost of McDonald's menu, rentals for 2 BR apartment in a decent location, transportation, electricity and municipality bills, medicals, etc.

I was told that USA to Ireland- the cost of living is much higher in Europe.  Depending on where you live in the USA.  The cost of living up North [New York] is actually higher than the South[Houston].

I'm in Houston- to answer Your question exactly:

Phone-$60-100 [depending on cell or Internet)

Mc Donalds- $5.50 for a meal

Apartments- 2-BR $1,000 to $1,400 for a good place, a medium level will be $900

Need a car and great news gas is $1.92 per gallon

Electric bills are higher in summer here $500 a month or $200 for smaller places  Water/Gas is about $60 each.

About $2000 a month

Get good insurance with your job for medical. You will need it.

A Doctors visit ranges from $25 to $125 per trip and medications are a national "CRIME" they are so expensive.  Now if you are diabetic- this is the best place in the world to live, the cost of supplies is coming down.  We have the world's premier Medical center here for Cancer, Burns and children's surgeries.

Great thing is- its actually cheaper to buy a house here than it is to rent. SO save up some money and with as little as $10,000 down you can get a huge house for the same monthly note as a great apartment.

At todays exchange rate that is about equivalent to €55,000. However it really depends on the field that you are working in. You salary may not automatically translate to its European equivalent.  As a rule, regardless of where you live in Dublin, a sizable chunk of your salary will go on accommodation charges.  You may be prepared to share rooms / property with others which will set you back about €150 per week.  If you want more privacy in a decent suburban area you will pay from approx €1100 to about €1500 on average per  month for 2 bedrooms. Phone / Heating / Electricity bills are vastly more expensive than in the USA. Gas bills for example have been increased by 25% in the last few months.  Mc Donalds prices are again more expensive than the USA but I don't think you should make your decision on that basis.  There is a fairly primitive public medical service but private health insurance will set you back about €500 per year for a single individual. Often companies sponsor private health insurance.

It is very expensive here.Electrticy has gone up twice this year ,my daughter is renting a 2 bed apartment in suburbs with lots of transport near by it is costing her & bfriend e1200 not including bills.my doc charges e40 to 50 .Alot will depend on where you go for trasport buses here rarely run on time .Trains luas ok

The cost of living in Dublin is quite expensive.  Ireland is the second most expensive country in Europe. Dublin is the most expensive place to live in Ireland.  Phone bills are ok, Broadband is available in Dublin, so you could get a VOIP phone and all you will be charged for is the rental on broadband per month.  Calls shouldn't cost anything with that. I think you are better off with the bus in Dublin as the traffic queues are brutal. Electricity is expensive enough. It is the ESB here, their website is www.esb.ie. There are 3 health insurance companies here, VHI, BUPA are 2,and Vesa health.  Depending on what company you work for, they might have a group scheme to join them. Plan b is the most popular one.  Hope this small bit helps. If you are unsure of anything, I would suggest you "google" it for the cost of living in Ireland.  I am Irish and live in Ireland. Not Dublin though!  Too expensive....

Well in Dublin it really depends where you live. A 1 bedroom appartment (but a really nice and modern one) in the center (Dublin 2 which is one of the best central area) is about 1100 Euro. For that price you can have a 2 bedroom House in the suburbs.

food is expensive but taxes are really ok. Usually the company where you are working take a medical cover for you. Transport is ok nothing really to say except that in a general manner Dublin is an expensive city and will be more and more expensive. If you have 50 000 Euro per year it is a very good salary for this town though !

Probably about 45,000 Euros, you get a lot more money in the States.

Moving to Dublin you will not save money.

Flat will be around 1200E a month, add about 100 for bills.

Mcdonalds meals are about 6E.

Medical is much cheaper here and your private medical insurance will be about 600E.

If you visit a doctor (with or without insurance) it will cost you about 45E.

Going out will be between 50 and 100E, the price of a pint has gone up.
