My samsung e840 has touch

Question

my samsung e840 has touch buttons; they're not working. they seem to work fine (although sometimes require some repeated pressing to get any response) when the phone is slid down but when i slide the phone up the touch buttons just don't work at all. any ideas would be truly appreciated!
