  1. have you washed your sand before you put it in your aquarium?

i have set up few aquariums in my life.

The first time, i forgot to wash the gravel. The cloudiness will never settle down till TONS of water change.

Then, i always wash my gravel very very thoroughly. Wash them in multiple buckets till they have no obvious cloudiness. I usually fill each bucket to 1/3 full, and rinse with hot water about 10 times each.

After it's clean, i pour them in my aquarium.

Then usually, after 24 hours, it should be crystal clear.

Although my last 72 gallon took 48 hours to settle down.

Hope this gives you an idea.

  2. most people use gravel easier to be clean.. but id say your filter is not working

  3. How powerful is your filter outtake?  Is it possible that it's creating a current that is blowing the sand around?  Just a thought.

  4. I washed my sand for about an hour until the water ran clear but as soon as i put it in my tank it settled right away! I didn't even have to wait 30 mins! What I would do is, if your tank isn't to hard to manage i would removed all the sand and clean it. If your tank is to large and you dont want to go through that hassle, just do a billion water changes until its crystal clear.

  5. A Hydro-Sponge Filter will help clear up water real quick  I use one when I set up an aquarium with sand. you have to watch you don't suck to much sand into your power filter. It's not good on impellers. I leave the sponge filter run a day befor starting power filter. It helps.

  6. Is it live sand?  rinsing is a bad thing if so.  (sand should only be in a saltwater tank, FIY if its freshwater)  Fill your fish tank bucket with a few gallons of water,  and rinse the filters, and aside from that it will take a week or so for it all to settle.  just keep that filter rinsed.
