I was feedin him a fuzzy and it got wet when he dragged it in his water dish and all the substrate stuck to it. Im really worried he might get impacted. Im about to change its substrate and also was wondering if I should choose repti bark or that forrest bedding moss.

  1. wouldnt worry much about a bit of substrate being eaten ,provided the monitor has a good hot spot they can digest anything.crushed walnut bad, cypress  ok, custom mixed soil best here is a link for some more info on proper monitor substrate choiceshttp://www.proexotics.com/FAQ2.html#19

  2. Monitors are super tuff reptiles and with a proper basking area he should do just fine i would change your substrate to a mixed soil check out jason h site he gave.

  3. you have to check on the label and it would probably say harmless if ingested

and yes you can use repti-bark or you can use this thing called forest floor bedding (a.k.a.cypress mulch)

  4. I use the walnut shell bedding for my bearded dragon and he has eaten small amounts before and never had a problem.  Just keep an eye on him and make sure he poops regularly.  If he doesn't p**p in the next few days, I'd call the vet, but there shouldn't be a problem.
