Question:

My school's network doesn't allow me to access certain websites?

The network at my school doesn't let me get onto a lot of sites on my laptop there. I have heard of "proxies" which I think might be ways to "sneak through" the "barrier" and get the full internet. I have also heard of a site that I think is called "snakewriter," or something similar to that, that has links to Facebook and Myspace and lets you get to those site through it.

Can anybody give me some information on this and how to get through the blocked sites that my school has?

Thanks so much

  1. the easiest way to freely browse the internet is to use a third party server (proxy or otherwise).  Basically you connect to the given server, and then it connects to the site you are trying to access.  This is a good site for it:

it will do the groundwork for you.  If for some reason it doesnt solve your problems, you can host a personal computer and create a tunnel to it from your school, then use it as a server.

  5. When you use a proxy website, you make a request to that web pages server to send you this page. Therfore because the proxy website is not blocked it can serve you the page. This is opposed to you directly requesting the page and thus going through and being detected by your schools web server. Remember that these restrictions are put in place for reasons and that offen you are breaking the terms of your contract by doing this.

  6. Yeah. Of course their are proxies. I have a couple that I used in school last year. But they can get you suspended from school and never let you se a computer again.
