  1. Read it outloud to yourself. And try having music on in the bakcground-classical or soft rock. Stand up while reading.

  2. You need to work on your COMPREHENSION SKILLS!   More "reading" is not going to solve the problem.  Try reading very short stories and answering questions about them. KEY>>>>WHen you read, try to make a movie in your mind and visualize what you are reading.  This definitely helps with comprehension.  There's a book called "Thinking and Reading"...it has very short stories and lots of questions after each story, geared toward getting you to comprehend and remember text.  You must work on this skill in order to improve.  It's a brain thing!  You're smart, just get this part strengthened and you'll be fine! : )

  3. Whilst we have stronger tendencies to one learning style over the two others, it is possible to re-train and develop other learning styles ..they are not set in stone.

You need to make your learning more active, and try to use all 3 styles so the other two get a chance to develop.  so when you read, trace key word in the air with your fingers and say it out loud.

Try making coloured memory cards with the main points of your notes on: mix them up and try to get them in the right sequence e.g. main points of an essay you are going to have to write.

Use mind-maps with pieces of coloured card so you can stick them onto your notes.

    Use coloured hi-lighter pens.

When you read, say it out loud (at home obviously, not in the class)

Draw Little figures next to your notes to make it more active.

It might take a little time but now is the time to practice, to find what suits you before you go back to school.

I am a visual learner, as a science teacher I had to work on my kinaesthetic and auditiory skills.  A teacher who cannot listen to students or do practicals:  Can you imagine ;-)

I can now do all three, although visual will always be the stronger one.

    Good luck

  4. talk to:

your parents [ to get you best medical advice from YOUR Dr ]

school staff [ to get additional help ]

not uncommon,my sister used to read stuff UPSIDE DOWN and the teacher thought she was just acting up.

turns out she had dyslexia [ look it up ] and COULD read [ ONLY WAY for her ] upside down!

nothing to be ashamed of either!

get yourself some help from your family,YOUR Dr and the school

GET GOING! DON'T WASTE VALUABLE TIME !

  5. Hey sounds familiar.I would try books on tape .Ask someone else to read it to you so you can listen or take notes on each page or chapter use a sticky note for outlines ideas. try going to Fry's or best buy look for text reading program ,dragon something.ask your district if they have your text book or chapter book on audio.I think it will make a big difference to you and learning.or kurtwell3000

try reading for the blind and dyslexic they have free audio's

  6. Learn to take notes properly on what you read. Depending on your age, "The Well Educated Mind" may be helpful. It's got lists of all the sorts of questions you should be asking about several genres. It's a lot of work, but it will teach you critical thinking and reading skills, and give you something specific to do while reading. It will focus your mind onto particular points, and writing is something you can do with your hands.

For subjects other than English, use your initiative and find yourself some hands on subjects. First, read your text and take notes of the important parts, the things you are supposed to be accepting as rules or truths. Then figure out some way of testing it. There are many science kits available for all sorts of different scientific branches. You can get extra books from the library with more detailed pictures. There are some excellent colouring books for different branches of science on amazon. They aren't for little kids. For history, join a re-enactment group like the SCA or something. Last of all, talk. Talk to your parents or whoever is willing to listen about your work, the content, your opinions of it, and listen to their thoughts and ideas too.

  7. Start highlighting text.
