OK, I had a old teacher and it was a problem. See the class was horrible and the teacher couldn't control them so the kids who wanted to learn didnt get the information they needed and missed out and sometimes the teacher didnt grade our papers we turned in and we got 0s for it. So yea, I failed that class and I dont want that to happen again. The thing is the teacher was looking forward to retiring this year this year and she did, and about only 3 people in the class passed. See that is messed up. I shouldnt be able to retake that class because of her, but I have to. I also have friends who had problems with that teacher too and some other teachers are doing the same thing. It's like they cant teach. The students at school report them but they wont do anything! We are the ones who need teaching and it's hard to do that when they cant even control the students in the school. Everytime school is about to be out so many fights break out. What do a Alabamian kid do?

  1. Yes, your school definitely has a problem.  I see two options.

1:  Is there another school that is close enough for you to attend?  Sometimes other schools will take students even if they don't live in their boundaries.  Check that out if you can.

2:  Report like crazy.  Tell the principal, your guidance counselor, the people at the district office, go to your state office of education.  If you take this route, be sure to collect your evidence.  Do you have those ungraded papers?  Do you have other papers that you handed in?  Even if you have it saved on your computer hard drive, it's proof that you did it.  Also, there are some words you can use with your principal to get him/her to listen.  They are "due process law".  When you use these words, it means you're threatening to take the school district to court.  Schools want to avoid this at all costs.  It's expensive and really, they'll only let you take them to court if they believe VERY STRONGLY that they will win.  If they have any doubts about their own credibility, they will try to solve the problem and make you happy.  Sometimes just saying those words will get their attention and they'll listen.

I hope this helps.  You have been treated unfairly.

  2. I dont know how old you are or what grade you're in but if your in high school you should find out if your school offers "duel credits." That means you can take classes at a local community college and those credits will also count towards your high school credits. If that will work for you go to a site called ratemyprofessor.com, find your school, and pick a teacher with a good rating. I really hope that helps. By the way dont be intimidated by college level courses. We have many high school kids in our classes and they do fine!

  3. go report it to the presible or hide a video camera in the room to show her teaching

  4. If this is going on and you are young enough, i would say transfer to another school as well.  My question is this though:  Every school has does teacher reports or something where the principle comes in an observes the class for 3-4 times during a 2 week period.  Did this not happen?  Surely if it did the principal knew this was happening.  Maybe they cut her a little slack since she is retiring (it happens).

Point being though and not to place blame BUT:

How could you let this go on for an entire year?  If you failed the class and have to rertake it that means your overall grade after 6 6weeks was under a 70...If you are a good student, why didn't your parents march in and see what is going on?  Sorry but it doesn't make full sense to me.

Definately DO NOT BRING A CAMERA in the classroom- repeat, AGAINST THE LAW and you won't be helping either...

This problem should have been handled in the fall, not until waiting until after you failed the class for the year...

    Lesson learned hopefully.

I would look at transferring and if you couldn't hopefully get your parent (s) involved more...i wish I had mopre parents involved in my classes

  5. If the behavior has been reported and the administration does nothing, you cannot change the teacher behavior. HOWEVER, you can change your response to it and your success in school. If you think a teacher will take your paper and you don't receive a grade. Make copies of the papers before you turn them in and write on the copy the date it was submitted. Have your parent or another teacher sign it. Then you have proof of submission and don't have to take the zero and have proof to take to the principal or school board. If you are in a class where little teaching and learning is going on, study on your own or form a study group of other students in the class and work together to teach each other. If you have older siblings or parents who can help you, that's even better. Take the anger and frustration you are feeling and channel that into efforts to learn on your own. Having a good teacher is a real benefit to learning, but you can learn with no teacher at all, so don't let a poor teacher stand in your way. When you can't change the system, work around it!! Everything you learn to do on your own will just help you when you get into college and the work world.
