My sears lawn tractor battery is dead, can I jump it? Whats the best way to charge it?

They sell new batteries in auto parts stores for around $17 ( 2 year ago price).   I use my car charge, let it charge for a few minutes then use one of it's options named "jump start'.

You can jump it off, I use one of those small portable battery chargers for 6/12 volt batteries and it works quite well.
