Question:

My serves bouncing low?

I stopped playing tennis over vacation from the summer and when I came back, I decided the first thing I should start warming up with were my serves.

I noticed my serves didn't lose their power (106mph was my fastest) but I noticed they didn't bounce as hi as I remembered.

I want to mention that I never kick after having shoulder injuries, and I only hit it flat without any back and leg bend? Maybe I'm adding backspin on my serves or maybe not enough snap?

Is there any way to provide a slight kick to the serve without completely changing my flat-serve form? I started to adapt towards using an Eastern grip just to generate some topspin.

  1. Well, I mean, does your serves REALLY need to bounce high? Unless you're doing a twist/kick, but to answer your question, just add more topspin to it and it'll bounce higher. Maybe it's the way you throw the ball? Whenever I throw mine, it spins from right to left, but normal ones should be spinning vertically, right?

I would try putting just a little bit of topspin on it to help with this. Doing this, you will get better consistent, hit a heavier serve, and get some kick on it. You can see on the video that Federer stays sideways a little longer and brushes up/sideways on the ball to get some action on it.

  3. You need to add topspin to the ball..

basically you have to brush the ball with your racket going up.
