I am supposed to stay off my feet by not running at practices. Skating will only hurt them more right?

  1. I actually think skating might be good for it.  skating tends to stretch while running tends to tighten.  Swimming would be a good exercise.

  2. Shin splints, ouch! I used to get them from running occasionally too. In my case I just needed to apply ice, but you should always consult a doctor. As for skating, it's probably going to hurt just the same. Which is not a good thing.

See a doctor, not because it's serious, but because it could be. Most likely not though...Sorry I don't want to make it seem bad, because it probably isn't. I'll stop now.

  3. Maybe not I always thought shin splints were from the impact of running. You don't run while skating and there really isn't any impact. Do you mean ice or rollerskating?

  4. If you are suppose to stay off it, then that is probably what you should do. I am sure before you start any sport or track, you are stretching.. this is important to warm up like that, so that you are not straining anything.. and drink lots of water.. Good Luck

  5. yes you have shin splints, and you should ice them on and off, i run track, and i have had those. dont ice skate. trust.me.

  6. I think so, I am a skater and my shins have hurt too. Maybe take a week off?

  7. No, it shouldn't but I would advise against it.

  8. Yes, it will. Chances are you have shin splints, or are starting to get them. If it feels like someone's trying to shove a screwdriver into your shin bone, then you probably have them.

Don't skate, this is really bad impact work, which makes shin splints even worse. Also, to make up for your weak shins, the pressure will go to your ankles, and then your ankles will hurt as well!

To get around and get excercise, try biking.

  9. I dont think so...I have had the same thing happen...The only thing that normally makes them worse for me is things with impact such as running jumping or walking.
