  1. It simply means that at least some of the components that make up the gun have a patent date of Dec 15 1891

    My guess would be that it was made for Belknap Hardware (model B68D) most likely by Savage (model94D)


  2. It's impossible to tell without more information or a picture. If you can read any markings on the gun (other than serial number), add that to your question and we'll give it a try.

  3. From what you have provided, the only information available about your shotgun is, it will be 117 years old in December of this year.

  4. DO NOT SHOOT IT.....Quite likely it was designed for black powder and if you try to shoot it with modern smokeless powder it will blow up in your face.

    Have a gunsmith look at it...  It may be a trade gun and good only for hanging on the wall as a show piece.
