My shoulder pops and snaps, injury last year?

last year I nearly dislocated my shoulder, I saw an orthopedica doc and got treatment for it. I've done well for nearly a year. Well the past few days my shoulder has been making some popping and snapping sensations. Its a little sore and feels a bit tight but not too painful. I don't want to reinjure it. Does anyone know what I can do about it? I can't see my old orthopedic doc. I've been considering wearing my sling for a few days and doing ice therapy and some of the exercises I did before. is this a good or bad idea? I'm just wondering if the popping with movement is a warning sign. I don't want to go to the doc if I can help it. I will have to establish care with a new orthopedic doc. the symptoms are mostly an annoyance

  1. onset of popping or snapping can be an indicator of soft tissue damage.  You said you nearly dislocated your shoulder?  What caused the near dislocation?  Did the doc do an MRI?  There is a chance that you may have damaged the cartilage in the shoulder socket and that is what is popping.  If that is the case it will only get worse with time.
