My shower head leaks when the taps are off - we have already replaced both hot and cold handles - help!!!?

  1. Assuming you did replace the washers when you replaced the handles, the only other thing that can leak is the valve seats that annie mentioned.  That occurs only in very old fixtures or fixtures that have been abused--meaning the the washers were not changed when they were worn out and people shut the water off by over tightening the value handles causing the seats to wear.


  2. You have to replace the washers not the handles.

  3. The handles have nothing to do with the leak.  You need to replace the washer or the cartridges underneath the handles.

    Note:  If you remove anything under the handles, water will shoot out unless you turn off the water to the house first.

  4. why would you replace the handles if your showerhead leaks? go to home depot and get a new showerhead. or take old one off to see if the problem is a bad washer or a crack first.

  5. You will need to replace the washer AND the fixture seats. Take a photo to the local plumbing supply store for identification purposes.
