I started off with the original sims then i installed the extras like sims pet etc then it began to slow... i know this may seem like it's the storage that is doing it but when i took off everything other than the sims 2 original it still crashed. It began by just the screen going stripy but if i wanted to i could still play then after time it just froze then i couldn't do anything other than turn it off at the socket...what could it be. I have the HP vs17e if that's any use.

  1. it is probably your nenory/RAM it is not enaugh or maybe if you have enaugh memory?RAM it is maybe from the game software problems, or windows, so just check your memory/RAM from "my computer" properties, by right clickin on "my computer" then clicking properties, if you have vista you must have 2 GB or more for normal game play, if you have XP i think 512MB or 1GB is enaugh check for that, then if it is OK, you must reinstall the game and try playing, if it crashes again the you should have problems with windows , you can just repair it or you can install new one.

I can tell you you cant have any else problems, your video card is OK, it was playing it normal before, and your CPU must be OK if it doesnt crash in other games, if it does then maybe it gets overheated which can be caused by the dust on your CPU heatsink, you can open it and clean it.

    nothing else

  2. hi emma

the main issue when installing games is ensuring you have the following things covered before you play it

    1) the latest direct x runtime files, however most games/applications come with the correct direct x a.p.i on the disk and this is installed as part of the game installation,if prompted to install direct x allways choose yes

2)the latest drivers for your graphic card(s) however some drivers can actually be the reason for some crashes,so try another version, and some games will also advise you on the minimum driver version to install

    3) run the direct x diagnostic utility more commonly known as "dxdiag"..this will run a series of diagnostic tests to check your graphic cards direct x capabilitys,go to start>run>then type   dxdiag      then press enter

run the direct 3d tests and then the direct draw tests,if all these come back succesful then thats ok

however another very common reason for crashes in games is overheating, and this is more than likely your problem mainly because the crashes have got worse over time, and the main overheating culprit is the cpu and heatsink, open your case and if possible remove the cpu fan from the heatsink and using some compressed air(air duster) clean the heatsink of dirt, and depending on the degree of dirt you could also use a soft brush and clean between the heatsink slits, making sure the heatsink is 100% clean, also blast some compressed air on the cpu fan before re-attaching

if you have other case fans clean these as well and if need replace any fans that are damaged or not working

next check the graphic card itself,if the card requires a additional power source then make sure you have a adequate power supply and also make sure you cards fan is clean, again use air duster on the cards fan and clean the cards heatsink were applicable

your probally getting the jist now,if its dirty or dusty then clean it,this is the single most common reason for pc problems, probally just as common as viruses and spyware ,and the annoying thing is it can be fixed easy by most people, were most will take it down their local pc shop and get charged £50 or even more

finally check all leads and cables paying special attention to the ide cables, check for damage or any wrips in the cable

once you have check all the p.c and cleaned the interior of the case then you need to run the sims game to check if the problem has been fixed

you may also visit the sims website at http://thesims2.ea.com/ and check for any updates or patches, these sometimes fix problems experienced by many sims owners

                         any problems let me know

                                     good luck emma   !
