  1. Catholics are Christians.  It used to be that you couldn't be a Godparent in a Catholic church unless you were Catholic so I guess they changed the rules.

  2. Catholics are Christians.

  3. Catholics are Christians too. I really don't think you would have to convert to be a 'God Mother', but I'm no expert.

  4. no i don't think so, my sisters godparents arent catholic.

it doesnt matter what religion you are, a godparent is ment to be there for there godchild to help guide them through life and piont them in the right direction.

it is a great responsibilty being a godparent but it is amazing being one.

  5. Well no. Catholics [like me :)] are christians to. Any religion that believes Jesus died on the cross to save us is within the Christian religion. But there is a difference in the churches however. I have been to a Christian church w/ my friend and we went to the youth group so while we were listing to the pastor they talked about iraq, homosexuals being bad, and harry potter being bad. It was one of those churches that talked about things that go to any length against that religion is wrong so they'll go to h**l. I didn't really agree with this church but I still had mine. Catholic churches however, the religion is the only focus what so ever in the mass. So the church may be different than yours, I am not saying all christian churches are like the one I mentioned above since I don't know if yours is or not but Catholic churches I have noticed are a little different.

  6. Only Catholics can be godparents but you can be an official witness.

Actually only one Godparent is necessary. You can have one godfather, one godmother, or one of each.

The role of the godfather and/or godmother is very important. They must be firm Catholic believers, able and ready to help the newly baptized—child or adult—on the road of Christian life.

To ensure this, a godparent must be at least 16 years old (for maturity's sake), fully initiated (having received Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist), be someone other than the legal parents, and one who leads a life in harmony with the Church.

If you have only one Catholic godparent, then you may have a baptized non-Catholic Christian participate as an official witness. The witness will be responsible for setting a good example for the baptized person while the Catholic godparent will share the specifics of the Catholic faith.

    With love in Christ.

  7. I work with someone who recently had been made godmother to her niece and she had to verify with her sister's parish that she in fact was Catholic. So have your sister ask the church, parish priest, or whoever handles this.

  8. You don't have to change your religion to become a god mother!

  9. You definitely don't have to convert...besides Catholics are Christians.

Your role is mainly just a title. The original role of the god mother was for that person to be a spiritual role model for the child and also raise the child in case of the death of the parents. In this day and age they really serve no purpose. It's mostly just a way of telling someone that they are important to them and their family. Pretty much all you really will do is give gifts to the child for the rest of its life because your the Godmother.

  10. Catholics are Christians. duh

  11. Noooooo its all ok your going to be a good godmother no matter what religion you are.

Agree it is very exciting to be a godmother I'm am one and now I'm expecting 2 little( twins) god children now that's even more exciting
