My sister found a huge dragonfly. She thinks that it is dying and wants to put it to sleep.How do you do that?

Just let nature do its job.  When the dragonfly is dead, have a simple burial ceremony.

Do you mean sleep, as in nite nite see you in the morning?  Maybe some ether, but that would probably kill it.  Or do you want to kill it and keep it?  If you want to kill it, squish it quickly.  If you want to keep it I'd do what we did in biology class:  Trap the bug in a jar and when we got back to the lab we put a hat pin through it's body and mounted it on a piece of styrofoam board.

cottonball soaked with alcohol. Put the dragonfly and the cotton ball into a jar together and seal it up. That will do it.

why don't you give it glucose syrup or something? If it responds it might be alright. But if not just completely nihilate it. Like smash it with a rock.

Dragonflies only have a 24 hour life span so it'll die soon on it's own or follow trapping in jar advice.  No air, no life.
