She is going to take it to the vet next week when she gets paid. Her boyfriend isnt working and they have no money at all to take her now. Are there any home remedies for an ear infection? Or something not too expensive to buy at say petsmart or petco? The kitty is scratching her ear alot and shaking her head and rubbing her ear on things. Thanks for any help on this.

  1. If your sister has any kind of history with a vet, she can take it now for treatment and pay later. Untreated ear infections can lead to much worse consequences, and it looks like the kitty is in lots of pain.

  2. it mite not be an ear infection not positive though her ear might just be itchy if it is itchy then she might get an ear infection from rubbing it and scratching it so much

  3. Ear mites are likely. Take a small flashlight & look into each ear. if you see black "dirt" you can wipe out with a wipe it's most likely mites. very easy to treat .

  4. You should go to Pets Mart and ask them if they have anything for ear infections, they probably do bc they have almost anything a pet could want and need in that store!

  5. I agree with the others, it sounds like earmites.   Nothing over the counter will help.  The vet will be able to give her something.

  6. This could be ear mites. nothing over the counter really works. best thing i can suggest for now is to go to petsmart and buy cleaning swabs and keep the ears cleaned and get to the vet asap. this can cause the kitten to go deaf. so please get her help asap. I tired miticide from petsmart didnt do a thing  but help aid in the cleaning. they have pre soaked swabs at petsmart like $2 and it will help relieve the pain and itch as well as help clean but the kitten should go to the vet as i said before. hope this helps good luck! *when you go to the vet ask for revolution it helps to repel and lasts a month*

  7. Look down in the kitten's ear.  If there's a black looking build up, it's caused by ear mites, a tiny parasite that causes the ears to itch and makes the gunky buildup.  She can get a liquid ear mite treatment from a pet supply store.  You just have to clean the ears really well with it and then use drops like a couple of times a month to prevent it from coming back.  She should still try to see a vet for shots and things when she can afford it but I know vets can be expensive.

  8. Poor little kitty, she's obviously in a lot of discomfort. Good to know she'll be taken to the vet for the proper medication and instructions. Yes, there are over-the-counter products your sister can use in the meantime, but your friend should call her vet and see what they would most recommend.

We like to think of cats as being pretty maintenance-free - that they just need food - but the expenses mount up. Food, spaying/neutering, yearly exam, vaccines - and that's just for a healthy cat.

I hope your sister and her boyfriend budget accordingly. Also, many vets will do things on a payment plan; something to discuss with them.
