Hi. my sister has 2 slots of ram on her computer and has one installed with micron 512mb pc3200 ddr sdram @200mhz, i need to upgrade her ram for her and was thinking of puting another 1gb in other slot .she only has 2 slots, I gave her link to crucial but she didnt understand it to well and her problems with the webpage so couldnt give me much info, she did find that her computer doesnt support duel channel. but can have up to 2gb of ram. i have seen on ebay similer ram but bit confused as to if need to buy only pc3200 ddr sdram at 200mhz or sdram which has diffrent catogory on ebay, i have seen one at 400mhz thats ecc registered as well would this be backward compatable to 200mhz. oh and lastly does it have to be eec or non ecc for this type of ram

thanks in advance for any help you can give me

There is 2gigs of ram you need.  Just sell or give the 512mb stick away and install these in her pc.

  2. If you use 2 slots of RAM, be sure to match the size, brand and speed exactly, or you will end up with a lot of errors, blue screens or a big slow down instead of a speed up.

  3. It's always best, to get the same type and speed of memory.

  4. Find out how many "pins" your current mem chip is by visiting the manufacturers website or looking in the owners manual. You can use an upgraded DDR ie... pc 5400 etc... as long as the pins match. Throw the old chip away as it will slow down performance.
