Its only started recently but we can't go near her hair or she will cry and have a turn. She is 8 and really can't stand it when you look at her. Her hair is knotty and you can't brush it.

What should we do? How can we stop it?

  1. buy special shampoo/conditioner.  Hand comb it.

  2. You can either have a long sweet talk about it and ask her why she is so afraid of that, or you can suggest dread-locks to her and if she dosen't like that, then what you can do is grab her by the hand and say : "I'm sorry sweetie but if you don't like dred-locks were going to have to brush it or you'll have no hair at all because if you don't like having hair then we'll shave it off you understand?" say SOMETHING like that. and if she does not like the dred-locks also take her to the hair salon. maybe they have another style for people like her.

Just do what you think is right. :D hope this helps!

  3. If a small child or any human is hurt or frightened badly enough, they will naturally become phobic of something or other that happened to be there as the body mind thinks THAT was the reason for the fear or pain - and sometimes, that's correct as it would be with certain animals or insects jumping and frightening someone.

But sometimes it's incorrect and there actually was no cause and effect at all - such as the lady who was stung by a bee which had sat in her hair brush and who became phobic of combing or brushing her hair as the result.

  4. That's a problem. Maybe but a brush with detangler spray and tell her it's lucky. Something good will happen at sometime through the day if she uses it.(&/or tell her about the hair fairy) And then at some point that day, keep the promise from the hair fairy and do something good, have ice cream or give put a coin in the bristles of the brush.

  5. Definitely buy a detangler or go ahead and have her hair cut short so it reduces the tangling.  2 other options:  give her control, or use distraction.  She might be ok if she brushes it herself or if you brush it while she watches cartoons, is on the computer, or reads a book.  It's likely she had a rough brushing session where her scalp was hurt and so this is the result.

  6. My 6-year-old daughter hated having her hair brushed, too.  I told her that she had two choices:  either I would take her to the salon for a very short hair cut, or she could let me brush it.  She wanted to let it grow long, so she gave in to letting me brush it and does not complain anymore.

  7. I have really curly hair and I don't like my hair being brushed unless i have had a shower and used lots of conditioner. Have her shampoo, conditon and then use a leave in conditoner. If you must brush hair between baths use a de-tangler.

If its' really tangled now.......buy a wide tooth comb and comb through her hair when in the bath after putting lots of good conditoner on.

    good luck.
