and one of them will not eat or drink. she has been force feeding him lately. his tounge has been stuck out of his mouth and dried up. he can hardly hold him self up when he tries to walk and only wants to be around his gecko buddy. normally, they hate being put on their backs when held, but the gecko doesnt care when she turns him over belly up now. she doesnt know what to do with her gecko and has only found one hospital that will attempt to find out what is wrong but has a minimum charge of $121.. just for bringing the gecko in. my sister needs to know what is wrong with her gecko, and how to make sure he will live. it would be greatly appreciated if you have any advice on how to treat this situation.

  1. Absolutely none of us will be able to pin point the exact cause of this lizard's problem(s).  You have to take it to the vet if you want anything to help and save him. If you don't have the money you shouldn't buy animals, it's not fair for them when something happens to them because people either can't afford help or don't want to spend the amount of money to help.  He should have been brought to the vet earlier, especially now that his tongue is dried up.....the vet may have to remove it and thats no good. There is no home care you can give to fix him. Take him to the vet.

  2. hello first of all this is not about money its about time, i have many geckos as a hobby, and from your description posted this seems like the gecko is effected by parasites if the gecko was bought in a pet store this is most likey what the problem is i have a leopard gecko and i have seen sick geckos before , im sure your sister did not make it sick,  it was bought with parasites. ok so this is what you have to do don't wast your time by going to the vet and spending way to much ( $121 ) ok i hate to say it but once infected its very hard to get rid of these parasites it may have force feeding is good but also give water to him lots of water. if its with a another gecko , keep them separated so the other dose not get infected as well , check the droppings for worms or other bugs and throw them out , keep the cage as clean as possible and humidity as high as possible for moister  content for the gecko. 90 degree heat will help. good luck
