Shes fond of saying negative comments, criticizing the things that im doing. There are times, when i visit their house ( Im bringing my children with me to visit my mother in law) She seems angry, she doesn't smile and I really don't know why shes doing this to me. I don't want to quarrel people but seems to be, I can't anymore bear her attitude. Any suggestion on how to deal with her?

  1. Avoid her. invite your mother in law over if you want her to see your children. Why put up wtih that. And mainly, why expose your children to that.

  2. Instead of  going to your mother-in-law's house, why not invite her to come over to your house?  That way you don't have to see or put up with your sister-in-law.  But if you must go over to your mother-in-law's house, then when your SIL criticizes the things you do, you can ask her right back how she can do it better?  Maybe she has a good answer, but if she doesn't then you just stumped her and her criticism is baseless.  Hopefully that will make her think twice before criticizing you the next time.  And/or when she makes a negative comment, calmly and clearly repeat her comment and ask her why is it that she said that?  Again, she needs to have an answer and if she doesn't then she knows what she said is stupid.  And you know that the things she says is just out of spite.  You don't need to waste your time with people like that. Just try to let the things she says or does slide off your back like it's nothing.  That's the only way to deal with people like her.  The more you let on that you are irritated by her, the more she will continue with her antics.

  3. Don't deal with it.

Tell the mother in law to come to visit on your turf.

You wouldn't take the attitude from a friend, why should you take it from family.  And I definitely wouldn't want my kids to be in the midst of that tension.

Just leave her alone, no discussions, nothing.  Its not worth the fight.

And its best for your kids not to be around someone that disrespectful.
