  1. my brother does that and hes 8. tell her that the angels r bowling and if it lightnings tell her they mad a strike. or tell her that its cool it can hurt u.

  2. Thunderstorms can be very scary with all that noise and lightening going on....even adults get scared of them sometimes. Just explain that the noise is just two air masses colliding with each other, one hot and one cold and that noise is the sound they make when this happens. The noise is nothing to be afraid of since it can't hurt you. The lightening however should be respected, don't go out if it is lightening.

  3. Try not to blame it all on her age...

I was deathly afraid of thunderstorms when I was younger.

Now I'm ony...really afraid of thunderstorms.

I'm not afraid of thunder.  I'm afraid of lightening but that's easily remidied...don't go outside.

I'm afraid of what comes with storms...hail?  tornadoes?  wind?  etc. etc.

Try explaining to her that if a storm is going to happen, you can't change it.  Just make sure she acts responsibly, and try (as others mentioned) to help her appreciate how interesting storms are.

    I have a love/hate relationship with them now...I've accepted I can't change them...I'm still scared...but also fascinated.

Some people will always be scared...

    Good luck!

  4. She'll get over it eventually. My sister used to be like that. Every day she would go online and check the weather report. She got over it, and not she actually likes them, and is fascinated by them. It's her age.

  5. Well, first you should try to find out what exactly scares her about thunderstorms. Is it the thunder or lightning, for example? When I was younger, my parents used to tell me stories about thunderstorms so I wouldn't be scared.

An example was that thunder was the sound of a bowling ball hitting the pins during a game, and the lightning was the sign that whoever was bowling had gotten a spare (a spare's a slash, and lightning generally comes down in straight lines kind of like that). Maybe that could help.

    Good luck  : )

  6. The best way to do it is explain to her the mechanics of the storm.  I know she's only nine, but if you tell her that thunder is and why it happens, it may help.  Also, try some of these tips in my source.  Good luck.  I personally love thunderstorms.
