  1. Oh yeah. You can get into most colleges as a homeschooler...Harvard, Standford, Yale all take homeschoolers. Once you get into college, then you earn your BS before you ever even apply for medical school.

  2. Of course!  Homeschool kids have as many, if not more, opportunities than classroom schooled kids.

I teach middle and high school homeschool kids at a local co op (Latin and Spanish), and one of my students is planning to be a doctor.  He's been homeschooled all his life, and is already more than prepared (in 10th) to take on a pre-med program.  He's getting a lot of his early college classes taken care of while he's in high school.

My son is planning on being a scientist (he's 10) and is still trying to nail down a specialty.  He's interested in a lot of different branches of science, so he's studying many of them during middle school to figure out what he'd like to major in.

Homeschoolers can go on to just about any profession, any college, any program...they just have to work for it.  She can do it!

  3. Yes!

Homeschool students have the same opportunities as public school students as long as they meet the requirements.

If your sister wants to be a doctor, then when she is in high school she should research the requirements for whatever college she wants to attend to make sure she takes the necessary subjects.

After being accepted to, and completing college, she would go on to medical school.

A great advantage your sister will have over other students is that as a teenager she will have more time to volunteer or even get a part time job in a field related to medicine.  This will look great on her college applications and will give her a feel for whether or not she really does want to be a doctor.

    Best wishes!

  4. I am home schooled (8th grade), and I plan to become an OB/GYN. Johns Hopkins is my dream. More and more, great schools are taking home schooled kids. She can definitely be a doctor if she works hard.

  5. Your sister can be anything she wants, my daughter wants to be a Palentologist and she's in 3rd grade.

Studying things like Anatomy and Biology (of any living thing) can help her go a long way. There is a website called EDHEAD (dot com I think) that has a virtual hip and knee surgery the child can do. Be encouraging, homeschool is not a death sentence.

When she gets older, she can do volunteer work at the local hospital as a CandyStriper ( I think they call them Auxillary now).
