My sitter is going back to work and she was the only person I trust that I could afford. All the daycares in my area charge 3times her rate. They also can't accomodate my work schedule (since I work an hour away). If I resign and claim unemployment until I figure something out, will I get approved? Has anyone else gone through this?

  1. You can't get unemployment, but there are many good state agencies that are subsidized or free to low income parents. California has a program called Head Start. It is supposed to be really good.

  2. If you QUIT, then no, you can't claim unemployment.   But, there are lots of State agencies that can help w/childcare...call them.   Good luck.

  3. You can't quit your job and file for unemployment.  To get unemployment you have to be fired from your job.  In order to be approved, you have to have been working for a certain period of time, and also have to prove that you have done everything in your power to get and keep a job.

Quiting your job to let the government take care of you and your kids is not an option.  You'll have to search for another babysitter.  I know how it feels b/c I have 3 kids and a daycare would charge me $1200 per month when my babysitter charges me $560 per month.  There is no way we could afford $1200 per month!  That's double our mortgage payment!  It's crazy!  But you have to work, honey!  Ask your babysitter if they know of someone that is looking that they trust.  Put an add in your apartment laundry room or something.  Pray!  That always helps!

  4. Exactly.  You can't quit your job and get unemployment.  You're not even guaranteed it if you tried to get fired (which no one does I'm sure)

  5. you can not claim because of your daycare problems.

welfare of aid to dependent children is available for only two years.

most cities have child care that is subsidized by the state.

That means head start for children 2to kinder...after that they have

daycare homes for infants. Your state also has after school

programs..The government wants single women to work..

check with human services ...you might have college classes

    that they pay for...just ask.

  6. The laws may vary from state to state. I know someone who quit and was still able to collect, I also know someone who was able to collect  even with a job but was eligible because of the type of industry.. work was slow and he had not been on a job for longer than a week. But most times you do need to be unemployed through no fault of your own. Call your local unemployment office and ask what their eligibility requirements are. However, I do know that most require that you be available for work and actively seeking a job to receive benefits..and they do check. You might try something you can do from home, such as medical transcription or look for daycare programs at churches that may be able to work with you. You also could try putting an add at a local college, for a student majoring in early childhood. They are likely to be responsible and take good care of your children. Good Luck!

  7. If you are in Canada, you can get EI if you have the proper amount of hours, usually over 700 in the last 52 weeks.  You can usually explain your situation on your application which will be put into consideration for receiving EI.  If you are from Canada, your best bet is to call Service Canada and see your options 1-800-622-6232.

  8. No because you were not fired.

You can place a add in the paper & have someone come to your home or do a home daycare  & that would be cheaper.

  9. nope you cannot claim if you quit for that reason, and if you do get approved your employer can fight it and you will have to pay back everything that has been issued to you!

  10. Take the kids to a daycare that's closer to your job. You can get state assistance with the price

  11. no you cannot get uneployment for that reason but you can apply for welfare and wic
