Question:

My skates are tearing apart my feet, what should I do?

When I come off the ice my socks are stained with blood from blisters on the back and sides of my feet that my skates give me. I've only worn them once this season so far, but I had similar problems last year too. What should I do? Wear em in a little more, at the same time ruining my feet? Or look for new ones (could you name some that offer comfort to your feet)?

  1. It is not comfort you need it is a proper fit. Your skates should be 1 1/2 - 2 sizes smaller than your shoe size. With your ankle all the way back your big toe should just touch the front of the boot. Skates also come in different widths. It sounds like you need a smaller and wider pair. Make sure you buy them at a hockey shop - not on-line or at a department store. You need to bake them after you buy them to mold to your foot - the baking is not a magic fit but it does help a little. Do not do this at home - it has to be done at the shop.

Also tie the laces tight at the bottom, snug in the middle, and tight at the top. Do not wrap the laces around your ankle. Also buy a pair of skating socks (most shops will give you a pair when you buy new skates). They keep moisture away from the foot and reduce friction in the boot.

Bottom line if you have blisters on the heel and sides, your skates are too big.

  2. You should probably get new skates, and make sure the new ones are the right size.  It really seems like this pair doesn't fit you right.  Also wearing a different type of sock might help.  Such as thicker or thinner ones.  Nike Bauers have always been comfortable for me, unless you're a goalie, I really wouldn't recommend Nike Bauer goalie skates.  But their player skates have always been comfortable to me.

  3. If you've only worn those skates once so far, that means you have not had the time to break the skates in. Make sure the skates are the right size, and that they fit you good. If that is all ok, then you just need to wear them in. If this still does not take care of the problem I can only suggest trying another brand of skates. Maybe try doubling up your socks.

  4. First of all they may be too big for you.  What is your shoe size and what size are your skates?  If your skates designed to be baked you could do that again to shorten the breaking in process.  Wearing them around the house helps them mold to your feet also.  Finally, you should wear the thinnest sock possible or go barefoot.  Kick your heel all the way back, lace them up tight, and your foot should not be able to shift around which is what's causing the blisters.

  5. Stop wearing them.

  6. get new skates there supposed to be a smaller size than your shoes r

  7. Sounds like your skates are way too big or just fit you weird. The only thing you can do is to get a new pair. I would recommend play it again sports if you can find your size there- remember, you want a size to a size and a half down. If they don't have something that fits perfectly, Dont' buy a pair that's close. Go and buy a new pair that fits.

Always, always try them on. they should be very snug and should be tied up fully before you decide they fit.

You might also be tying them too loose. I've seen people at public skates do that kind of thing.
